With the New PSLE Format,
There're No Shortcuts to a Good Composition
Remember the days when by simply memorising all the beautiful phrases and 'paste' them all over the composition would ensure your child's composition an A...?
Or just reading 'model compositions' and write them back was a good idea...?
Unfortunately, those 'shortcuts' were something in the past.
In the NEW PSLE English Composition component, such "tricks" DO NOT WORK. Because the composition is now marked solely based on your child's writing capability

Why is Writing Good Compositions Important?
The composition component makes close to HALF of the English Language Written Paper component and almost 25% of the entire English grade.
If your child scores an A for the composition paper, imagine how much that will help in his or her overall English result?
In fact, most students who did well for their composition paper will score an A for their overall English paper

...I Don't Think My Child is a Gifted Writer...So I Have Him Read Good Composition Over and Over Again....
Believe it or not, writing good composition is more based on skills than memory work.
Experienced PSLE Composition markers will definitely know who is a skilful writer that deserves top marks and another who has simply memorised 'model compositions'. And as mentioned, memorising beautiful phrases or 'model' compositions is not, I repeat, IS NOT going to be helpful in the latest 2015 PSLE Composition Examination.

Your child has been writing short sentences to long 150 words composition ever since your child knows how to write. Your child has developed his or her own unique way to write his or her composition.
Some children like to use a lot of descriptions in their writing while some like to use imageries. Regardless of what style your child prefers to write, it is his or her unique style. You can't just change it overnight.
So, to do well in the PSLE composition examination, your child's existing composition writing style needs to improve...or should I say, needs to be UPGRADED.
